We went to the Coconut Island, Hilo, annual food fest and ate a lot of meat wrapped in meat. That's what local people like, and who am I to argue. Oh, and shrimp. Last year the shrimp was the big hit and they ran out, so this year they had too much of it.
Coconut Island is reachable by foot bridge from the Bayshore and is a nice spot for these outdoor festivities. We had Hawaiian style entertainment: singers and dancers.
The hit of this occasion for me was a microbrewery Pilsner-type beer. I drank a lot of it and came home and had a very nice snooze.
I enjoyed this day very much, and it was a good reminder of what I like about being here. Just kicked back, saw a lot of friends and neighbors, chatted, ate, drank. It was a break from my usual round of home repairs and maintenance and political gnashing of teeth.
