I've been tagged

Aspazia  tagged me for a new meme , sent to her from Goldbricker, at Mad Melancholic Feminista, and I dare not break the chain lest evil come to us all.

First we have the rules:

  • We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
  • Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  • People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  • At the end of your blog post, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
  • Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

I speak, read and write German fluently.
I am working on a long reading and writing project examining the notion of "normalcy" in the Third Reich. This may or may not take me a year. It may take longer.
I live on Hilo Bay in Hilo, Hawaii. And yes, it is Paradise.
I loathe racism.
I love novels.

Best, Maiden

Thanks for thinking of me, Hattie, but I'm breaking the chain, on principle. I decided decades ago, when I got my first anonymous chain letter in an envelope with no return address, threatening me with the most dire of consequences unless I sent the same nasty message on to other unsuspecting people I kenw, that I would never, ever subject someone else to that. I used to hate it when I got email chain letters from friends, telling me that if I didn't pass it on, something really, REALLY TERRIBLE would happen to me. Why would anyone want to subject a friend to a curse? I would always reply and say, "I value your well-being enough that I would risk harm to myself in order to avoid passing it on to you; if you don't feel the same way about me, then maybe we're not really friends after all."

So--

even when it's done in jest, I don't play that game, because I don't think it's fun. I make it a point to break the chain, because I don't like chains of coercion.

Holly: 'Twas only in jest, but heavens if you don't want to participate, that's fine. I don't need a treatise or statement of position on the topic.

This has been fun, and I enjoyed the contact with bloggers that I like and read a lot.
Angry Black Bitch wins the prize for the most amusing response.

Fack from Vacation and worse off than before we left! I am dead in on this and with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek I will reply tomorrow! ABB always wins most outrageous, damn her! :)
