Missed the demo today. I had too much to do, getting ready for a trip to the Mainland coming up. We are going to see our grandkids after too long an interval. Last time we saw them was in July. Also we'll be attending a memorial service for Terry's uncle, Victor Scheffer, who died at age 104. He was a distinguished marine biologist whose books were best sellers in the 60's and 70's: The Year of the Whale was the most popular and was influential in arguing for banning whale hunting. This will be a happy occasion: he had such a good life.

That's hilarious! Three margaritas have worked their magic.

Fetching picture of moi at a Halloween party Saturday night. I invested $5.00 in that  t-shirt.  And I made my face up with  bright lipstick and mascara and so on.  Too bad Rick cut my head off!

Maria the  host threatened  not to invite Terry and me next year if we don't get with it on the costumes!   Terry wore a blond mullet wig, which actually completely changes his appearance. What do  people want? The fact is that neither of us has any imagination about costumes.

I brought an inspired dessert, however:  petits fours size strawberry shortcakes. Tiny biscuits, strawberries and cream. I made a whole lot of them, and they all got eaten. So I bet Maria will  invite us back after all. She had better, if she wants any more of those cakes!

The woman who grows strawberries year round was at the party. Strawberries year round, and not too expensive. Eat your hearts out!

More: Here is the strawberry lady. She sells quart boxes of berries every Wednesday and Saturday at the Hilo Farmers' Market for $5.oo a box. They are grown hydroponically and organically and are excellent. I had some on my oatmeal this a.m.

I'm extremely worried about the situation in Oakland. I think Moore realizes how crucial Occupy Oakland is, with young Iraq war vet Scott Olsen badly injured. He can no longer speak, according to this Guardian article.  This means it's open season on everyone.

The reaction has set in. Now the powers that be understand that the status quo is under serious threat.  Ridicule is not working.  Many who would rather live in peace will have  to leave their  personal comfort zones to deal with the mess our country's gotten into. People are being arrested by the 100's everywhere. The fight has just begun. Seems like old times. And I have got to say, bring it on. I'm ready!

More: Oakland is one of those cities that gets scapegoated, like Newark. They could be cut off and used as a model for how you break up these occupations. This is very serious. I hope Gov. Brown (former Oakland mayor) will intervene in a positive way.
