When did people become so timid about controversy? When did people decide that it was better to do without basic civil rights than stand out from the crowd? Is this back to the 50's? And when did it become OK to ask huge favors from people and then swear them to secrecy about it? This unfrozen cavewoman blogger does not understand.
Again, leaving Phoenix, we opted out of the X-ray machine. Imagine. All these people are allowing themselves to be irradiated rather than make waves.
Come on!
Lately I have been showing alarming symptoms of sticking up for myself and proclaiming that I am right about most things.
Must be a sign of old age.
Sounds like you don't have much peace in your life right now. Wish you all the best. Love and laughter always, Hattie!

Wise woman!

I bit the bullet and got up last night at two in the morning. I wanted to see for myself if the "Up with Chris Hayes" show was on TV in Honolulu. I have one tweet mate (I still don't know how to really do Twitter), Jodi Kantor, author of the new book, "The Obamas." She tweeted that she would be on the panel for the show along with some other good ones, so I gave it a shot.
There the show was in all its intelligent, rational, amiable Chris Hayes, wonky charm, as big as life--AT TWO IN THE MORNING. I watched for an hour when sleepiness drove me back to bed and I taped the rest. I just don't see how I can become a regular viewer under these sleep-killing circumstances.
Just as Hattie is becoming more outspoken, I guess my urge for evidence is asserting itself. Hattie: I knew an actiivist woman back in Ohio who said her ambition was to to wear sneakers and have outrageous opinions when she "grew up." You remind me of her in that regard, although I don't know what stand you take on sneakers. :-).

Gigi: There is plenty of peace in the grave but not so much above ground.
Marja-Leena: You are pretty wise yourself!
Hank: I'll start following you on Twitter.

Well, if it's a sign of old age....it's a good sign Hattie. I admire you for speaking up and following your beliefs...there's NEVER anything wrong with that; especially when you know what you're talking about. Happy Sunday dear friend... ~Joy

I think I am only half on twitter. I receive tweets from Jodi Kantor and no one else. I have no idea how to send a tweet. My address is @hankchapin (isn't that clever?). I wrote a comment on the first segment for Saturday of the "Up with Chris Hayes" show. Maybe I'll get more knowledgeable about Twitter with your help.

As long as I've known you, you were always outspoken. It's refreshing, especially in Hilo, where people hold back.

Hank: I follow people on Twitter, but I have only one follower. And I am thinking of abandoning Facebook. I've never liked it that much. It seemed great at first, but the security issues are too large. There are ways to deal with that, but I can't figure them out. I got upset when family photos were going out to friends of friends.
Brandon: Part of the reason that Hilo people are careful is that it is a small town. There are reasons for watching your step. But this can become a racket, too. And all money matters are sensitive. However, I am not a banker, so I am not bound by any secrecy codes about who has asked me for money or who owes me money.
