We are getting so much local fruit now, most of it from friends and neighbors. Bananas, tangelos, tangerines, papaya. We have star fruit, limes, breadfruit and avocados in abundance in our yard. We also have so many weeds that I've been spending a lot of time dealing with them, without much success. It's tough when you refuse to use pesticides and weed killers, and our yard always looks scraggy. Or "rustic," as a kindly friend puts it.
I made a bad mistake years ago, planting a pretty ground cover plant that has taken over. It is nice looking, but it grows over everything. Now my motto is: never plant anything!
This is our friend David with his incredible tangerine tree which has gone nuts this year.
Unbelievable!
This is a pic I took last night of our dining table, with local fruit and one of my many orchids. When I came back from Seattle I had nine orchids in bloom. They take care of themselves, mostly, so my regimen of benign neglect works well for them.
Lovely to have all that fruit! And the orchid is gorgeous, wish mine thrived as well with my benign neglect. Must be the climate and the light (so gloomy here this time of year.)

Marja-Leena: As I'm sure you know, they like strong, filtered light, ample humidity, good drainage, and a frugal diet. It isn't always possible to supply those things, but here it's automatic.
