We went up to the park at sunset to see the Kilauea Volcano in action. It was a lovely evening. There were many excited tourists there, taking pictures of the sunset and the steam vents and the glow from the crater with their I-phones and e-mailing them to their friends. This is pretty amazing, you know, because we are in the middle of the Pacific, the landmass most isolated from any continent. And yet we enjoy all the latest technology. And the President is on Oahu. I haven't been over to look, but I assume the backup Airforce One plane is parked at Hilo Airport.
Here are some pix I took with my Nikon Coolpix P100: (Click for enlargements)
Sunset glow on the way to the park
Parking lot and steam vents
Driving toward the plume
The ubiquitous cones of parking
Halemaumau
Your Cool pix really does a nice job in low light. I have problems with my Canon Powershot in low light which can be frustrating at times. Kilauea looks so beautiful. I wish I could have been there.

Kay: I'm glad you like the photos. My Nikon does a wonderful job for us amateur photographers who don't care about settings and don't want to lug a heavy camera around.
