Best vids of the meteor strike, at NYT
More: I just happened to be looking at my Twitter feed when the first raw video started coming up. How amazing to see so much coverage of an event virtually right after it happened. Those dashboard cams on the Russian cars were a surprise. Looks pretty bleak there but what one would expect of Siberia in the winter.
The size/mass/weight of the thing keeps climbing. When BBC first announced it, last night, I thought that they said it was about 2 tons and that it sent 34 people to hospital. Then, it went to 7 tons, then 7000 with over 100 hospitalized. Who knows what the final statistics will be?
I had assumed, upon first hearing, that the meteor was a fellow-traveler to the asteroid expected 12-14 hours later; but, it turns out that the trajectory of the meteor was opposite to what would have prevailed were that true.
