For heart fitness I must take 8,000 steps a day. I managed 7,265 on Sunday. We went to the Makuu Market, I did some outdoor work, cooked a meal and took two walks in the neighborhood. This activity really helps my heart. I feel fine as long as I keep moving, not doing strenuous exercise but just being active.
This little pedometer is great. It resets automatically every 24 hours and keeps a record for 7 days. Saturday I did almost 7,000 steps. Tomorrow I will start walking regularly with a neighbor, which is about a 2,000 step walk, which I will do twice a day. If I fall short, I can top off my steps with a few minutes on the elliptical machine.
I think this will do more for my heart than the meds. Which I am taking religiously, nonetheless. I don't think I can strain my heart anymore, however, with very vigorous exercise.
Here! Here! Good job and you reminded me that I want one of those pedometers!

Tabor: Terry, my husband, checked out all the pedometers, and this one got the best ratings. It does give me the incentive to get out and move.

Does it matter how fast you do the steps? I have no idea what our walk to the end of our property is. It's about 1/4 mile with some slope and when I do it, I try to walk it fast. My problem is I too easily get busy with other things and don't walk. I believe walking is the best exercise for elders.

Rain: This pedometer shows both steps and aerobic steps. But I think the main thing is to keep moving.

Sounds like a good plan! And a nifty gadget, that pedometer. Would like to walk with you sometime, when (and if?) I finally settle into my new work schedule.

Annie: I'll be gone for a while, but when I get back we can plan something.
