Want to know why we oldsters can be cranky and suspicious? Take a look at this. (Click to enlarge.)
Doesn't this look official? Why is this coming to me, when our house is paid for? And why do I have to call them if I want them to let me alone?
And even people who aren't of criminal intent like to push it with old people, sometimes. A landlord here, in his 90's, has a no-pet clause in the lease. In spite of that, the renter boards several shelter dogs on the property. Getting him out would be such a setup: you know, grumpy old selfish guy against nice animal lover. The renter also helps himself to all the bananas and avocados growing on the property, although the landlord never gave him permission. The rationale is that since he needs these things he should take them. I'm sure the landlord does not really mind, but he would at least like to be asked, since he's right next door. How discourteous can you get? Our renters are welcome to anything they want from the property, but they always ask.
I appreciate that the renter and his family are having a hard time, but they are not being honorable.
And take a look at these Siamese bananas from our yard. Never seen such a thing before. Don't they look cozy together in their peel? Seems like a shame to disturb them.
Once again the bankers are going after those who fall too easily in to traps. I would submit this to the Consumer Protection office in your state or federally.

Scammers everywhere. Unbelievable. You'd need the wits about you, I feel sorry for those more enfeebled and panicked.

The crooks really prey on older people with such insulting presumptions about our inadequacies. Unfortunately, they manage to find a few from whom they can take advantage which encourages them to continue. They use every communication means possible.
