It's nice that people are discovering and re-discovering Seeger, and I'm sure I'm not the first to point out that he went from being blacklisted to being eulogized by the President. My mother had the Talking Union Album that he made with Woody Guthrie and others. I particularly remember the Talking Union number and the Union Maid (to a tune called Pretty Redwing. ) I never saw him perform live, but he was the spirit of the Vancouver Folk Festival that we went to many times. We did hear Utah Phillips there, who was a protege of his and preceded him in death.
I guess I took him for granted. We had a recording of songs he sang for children, too, when our children were small.
The whole folk and pop music scene, as it exists today, could not have happened without him.
