The frenzy is upon us, with a large number of people celebrating New Years chez Hattie! Many of them are children, so I expect the usual kinderorgy. This may increase adult alcohol consumption, so it is wise to be well prepared before the festivities begin.
It is under these circumstances that I give many thanks to Martha Stewart for all those recipes she publishes in her little magazines and online, that are always a big hit. They are easy, use common ingredients, are nutritious and delicious.
Here are two favorites:
Slow cooker sweet and spicy chicken. Just the right amount of spice to intrigue adults but not so unusual that kids won't eat it. It contains raisins which makes the dish a little bit sweet, which also pleases the children. The video is very cute, too.
And this is Martha's recipe for basic butter cookie dough. I just make two logs out of it, refrigerate them, cut them up and put sprinkles on them and bake. Easy, and the kids love them. And so do adults. I favor the simplest cookie recipe, which makes cookies that taste of vanilla and butter. No need for anything fancier, I think. They vanish pretty fast!
Happy New Year, everyone. 2015. Chase away the gloom and celebrate!
