They do not have many mass shootings in Australia, but they still have some, and instead they have mass arson attacks. The gun ban hasn't lowered the murder rate or the violent crime rate. Because it is the people not the weapon.

Stats? Links?

Sorry to say that your vision of Australia as a country on the brink of anarchy is not accurate. We are in much worse trouble in the U.S. than we want to admit.

wisewebwoman

Terrifying. Reading comments is so disturbing on any article such as these. The women hatred takes my breath away.

I didn't say they were on the verge of anarchy. I am saying they are not less violent than they used to be. They just don't use as many guns to kill as they used to.

Hattie

Totally false and easy to refute.

That last link sure is one plug ugly.

The Aussies I traveled with in September were mighty proud of how it only took one mass shooting event for them to get on a better path. They think we are nuts. I don't argue.

Ruben Perez

Hattie, if you study our history, our real history, you would see that our country was founded on violence, religious fanaticism and greed. Winners get to write the history, thus a celebration of Indian massacres becomes our Thanksgiving.

The Protestant wave of the Atlantic coast along with the catholic wave through the west meant the indigenous had to convert or die. They died.

It's in our DNA.

You can't train a rattlesnake to be a pet. You can't change who we are. As a people We're gun toting, God fearing, gold wanting creatures. We were that at our birth. We'll be that at our death.

Brandon

This is not about the shooting at the clinic, but I wanted to point out a recent New York Times profile of Tulsi Gabbard that was reprinted in today's paper.

Hattie

Ruben: We must do what we can. We do struggle with past and present evils perpetrated by the powerful against the weak, but we have hands, brains and heart to fight back.
Brandon: I think I read it but will read it again. I really dislike little go-getters like her. It's even worse if she's acting out of conviction rather than being purely ambitious.

Ingineer66

Ruben, please. Thanksgiving has nothing to do with Indian massacres. The Wampanoag helped the Pilgrims because they wanted allies against other Indian tribes that were threatening to wipe them out.

I read the Tulsi Gabbard write up in the NY Times the other day. I like her based on what I read. We need some new blood and new thinking in DC. Enough with the old guard establishment having a strangle hold on everything.

Hattie

Gabbard is OK, I suppose, and apparently good on women's issues but I still don't quite trust her. I'll have to read the article. Maybe say more after I have read it.

Anne

Why is it always so hard for many Americans to admit that "we" are descendants of the unsavory ones who conquered this land? I've wondered about that for a long time. So much pride, not enough humility.

Hattie

Anne: I'm doing a little comparative study of the way Australia and New Zealand were incorporated into the British Empire. It was crass ambition, lust for adventure, desire to own property, and commercialism, right from the start.

Brandon

Checked out Drudge right now. Big headline: HOUSE DEM: OBAMA RISKS 'NUCLEAR WAR' WITH RUSSIA
that links to this National Review article:

Brandon: God she's nuts. Well, her dad is, as Hawaiians know, but I was not going to mention that, because it seemed so unfair.

Care to fill in the folks in San Bernardino about your touchy feely thoughts?
It's a violent, nasty world out there.

I'll not post here often. I don't want you to see the ugliness that exists outside the safe bubble you are living in.

Brandon

Here's another article about Tulsi:

Ingineer66

Ruben, I am not sure I understand your comment. But in a state where assault rifles and large capacity magazines are banned, a couple of Muslim terrorists used assault rifles with large capacity magazines and pipe bombs to kill and wound dozens of people.
